When Buffalo Springfield went to the Monterey Pop Festival, Neil Young was unable to attend and was replaced for the performance by Doug Hastings. Doug Hastings was first a member of The Daily Flash, a folk/psych rock outfit. The Daily Flash never released an album but gained respect in the live scenes of Seattle and LA. A compilation of their recordings I Flash Daily came out in 1984.

Probably Jack Nitzsche's most notable collaborations were with The Rolling Stones (visited two stops ago) and Neil Young. The two first collaborated while Young was still with Buffalo Springfield on the songs "Expecting to Fly" and "Broken Arrow". Nitzsche co-produced the songs and arranged the orchestration for the latter. Buffalo Springfield released their second (!) album Buffalo Springfield Again in 1967 on Atco Records.

Starting with their second album came The Rolling Stones's collaboration with producer, composer, and arranger Jack Nitzsche. He was credited with playing the "Nitzsche-phone", a name for a non-existent invention given to the particular recorded sound of Jack's piano/organ. Jack Nitzsche released his first album The Lonely Surfer in 1963
