Keane were the breakout British band of 2004 and sold that way. Over 2 million copies of Hopes and Fears came off the shelves, good enough for 9x Platinum in the UK, but not quite for best selling album of the year. They were second, falling one shy to the unlikely UK popularity of American band Scissor Sisters. They released their debut album Scissor Sisters in 2004.
